About The Author

I’m a history teacher and storytelling is what I do. Georgia is my home and I love her stories, especially those that have not been shared broadly outside a small circle of people fortunate enough to have heard them. Those are the stories I want to tell you.

The Truth Together

Alonzo and Adrienne Herndon are climbing their way to success in Atlanta. Only a few decades removed from slavery, Alonzo is on his way to becoming the richest Black man in Georgia. Adrienne, an instructor at Atlanta University and aspiring stage actress, has lived her life sheltered from racism’s limitations. Enabled by her light-colored complexion, she slips back and forth across the color line. A real-life power couple, Alonzo and Adriene have their plates full building careers, raising a family and navigating their way through life in Atlanta, before it proclaimed itself “too busy to hate.”

Tender and Urgent

K. O. Kirkland

Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2022 Verified Purchase Rodgers writes with tenderness and urgency. Her characters from the past come alive with crafted verisimilitude. A lay reader will know straight away Rodgers is a natural storyteller, but an historian at heart. A family drama set in Georgia in in the 1920s and beyond, The Truth Together moves readers to research, reflect, and redress--turning pages while making notes to Google a tidbit later. Rodgers drops us in to the booming Black industry of Atlanta, the lonely sanatarium halls of Milledgeville, the vibrant salons of intellectual giant W.E.B. DuBois. As any good story from the past, The Truth together transports the reader to a different time while simultaneously urging her to confront bone-chilling parallels to our modern world.
